Fire crews fought off a massive fire at alumber yard in Langley late Friday night.

Langleyfire crews and theRCMPresponded to a call regarding astructure fire around 11:30 p.m. Friday, after hearing reports of loud explosions and popping from the Country Lumber yard on Fraser Highway.

Crews arrived to find massive flames tearing through the roof of the yard warehouse, where some of the lumber product was stored.

There are no hydrants in the area near the yard, which was one of the biggest challenges for the crews fighting the fire.

"We had to shuttle water from other parts of the community in to this area,"said Deputy Fire Chief Russ Jenkins.

"There's a lot of saved product, but a fair amount of product in the warehouse is lost."

Jenkins'brother is a partner in the Country Lumber business, and was at the scene earlier in the night. Jenkinssaid the warehouse will probably be out of service for at least a couple of days.

"It's ...a little bit upsetting when you hear it's a family member's business, but it's all part of the job," said Jenkins.

Crews were able to contain the fire in just under an hour, but remained on scene into the early morning hours cleaning up.

No one was injured in the fire, the cause of which is still under investigation.
