Langley RCMP officer charged with aggravated assault for allegedly stabbing 2 in Edmonton

A Langley RCMP officer has been charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for allegedly stabbing two people in Edmonton in 2013.

In a statement, RCMP said Const. Benjamen Kozlovich was arrested on Tuesday for the incident, which occurred before he joined the force.

Police say the alleged crime took place at a fast food restaurant and left two victims with serious injuries.

An unidentified suspect fled the scene.

Kozlovich has made a court appearance and was released on bail. RCMP say they have launched an internal investigation and are reviewing his employment status.

"It is fluid for us," RCMP spokesperson Dawn Roberts said, adding his status as an officer could change at any time."He is not working as a police officer for us at this time."

Roberts also confirmed that as of Thursday afternoon, Kozlovich was still receiving pay.

Roberts said Edmonton police uncovered new information about the stabbing and contacted B.C. RCMP. The Mounties' serious crime unit began investigating in January 2019.

Police described Kozlovich as a probationary member of the force, having completed his training in January of2018.

New Mounties are considered probationary for their first two years and can be dismissed, Roberts said, if they are found to be unsuitable to serve.
