Lost hikers rescued from Howe Sound Crest Trail

The pair, a man and a woman in their thirties, became lost around Mount Unnecessary around 10 p.m. Wednesday.

Two hikers are home safe after being rescued from the Howe Sound Crest Trail late Wednesday night.

The pair, a man and a woman in their thirties, became lost on the trail to Mount Unnecessary around 10 p.m.

Mike Danks with North Shore Rescue said the pair found just enough cell signal tocall search and rescue themselves,sounding panicked.

Crews fromLions Bay Search and Rescue also responded to the call.Theymade contact with the hikers around 11:30 p.m., and managed to hike themdown to Lions Bay by 1 a.m. Thursday.

Dankssaid cellphone signal was not great in the area, so it took a while for crews get an accurate location for the pair.

He said the pair were not experienced hikers, but were uninjured.
