Body of missing snowboarder found near Cypress Mountain ski resort

The body of a snowboarder who went missing from Cypress Mountain ski resort in West Vancouver has been found near Horsehoe Bay, rescue officials have confirmed.

40-year-old man from Surrey, B.C., was last seen alive at noon on Friday

The body of asnowboarderwho went missingfrom Cypress Mountain ski resort in West Vancouver has been found near Horseshoe Bay, rescue officials have confirmed.

The 40-year-old Surrey, B.C.,man had been missing since Friday afternoon when he failed to meet up as planned with a friend.

North Shore Rescue volunteers scoured the region surrounding theski resorton Friday afternoon and resumed on Saturday. The man's body was found near a creek to the west of the ski resort.

North Shore Rescue team leader MikeDankssaid the man was snowboarding with a femalefriend Friday. The pair was in an out-of-bounds area. They splitup and went in different directions. The woman made it out safely and, when she couldn't find her friend,contacted police around 6 p.m.

North Shore Rescue dispatched a crew whofound the snowboarder'stracks. The tracks led to a steep creek area that is considered very dangerous, Danks said.

The group halted itssearch and resumed Saturday, using a helicopter.They spotted the manat the bottom of a cliff Saturday morning, but couldn't immediately reach him due to weather. On the second attempt, searchers reached the man, but he was dead.
