Luka Gordic stabbing: charges upgraded to murder

Two of the teenagers accused of stabbing another teenager to death in Whistler Village during the May long weekend have had their charges upgraded from manslaughter to second-degree murder.

Two of the teenagers accused of stabbing another teenager to death in Whistler Village during the May long weekend had their charges upgraded from manslaughter to second-degree murder today.

Arvin Val Golic, 18, turned himself in on Thursday morning to face the new charge. Another minor, who can not be named because of his age, also turned himself in and had his manslaughter charge upgraded to second-degree murder.

The pair, who have been out on bail, are expected to be released on similar conditions by a B.C. Supreme Court justice this afternoon.

Two other minors were also previously charged with manslaughter in the case.

Police allege the victim Luka Gordic, 19, was swarmed by up to 10 teenagers and stabbed multiple times, as he left a 7-11 store in Whistler in the early hours of May 17.

Past court appearances in the case have triggered fights between the families of the victim and the accused.
