Man badly wounded in Langley parking lot shooting

Police found as many as 40 bullet holes in a truck after a man was shot Friday afternoon outside a suburban Vancouver supermarket.

Police have not identified the man, but several police sources told CBC News he is Kevin LeClair, 26,of Surrey and is linked to a gang in the Lower Mainland. He was airlifted to hospital and was reported in critical condition.

The brazen shooting happened shortly after 4 p.m. inthe packed parking lotof an IGA store in Langley, near theColossus Theatre complex at 88th Avenue and 200th Street.

RCMP spokesman Cpl. Peter Thiessen said the victim suffered "fairly significant wounds," and heavy weapons were used in the shooting.

"What I can confirm is that high-power weapons were utilitized The suspects involved in the shooting certainly had significant firearms at their disposal," Thiessen said Friday night.

A witness told CBC News the pickup truck the wounded man was believed to be drivingwas being chased by three other vehicles.

"I was washing a front table, heard what sounded like fire crackers, looked up and there was a guy holding a handgun shooting at a truck over in front of the IGA," the witness said. CBC News decided not to name the witness for her personal safety.

"The whole parking lot was full of smoke. All of a sudden the truck started revving constantly. A young man jumped into a van and pulled out of here with two cars following behind," she said.

Another witness said he thought he heard 15 to 20 gunshots. Police later said as many as 40 shots may have been fired.

Several ambulances and police cars showed up atthe scene, and a section of the parking lot was cordoned off with yellow police tape.

The RCMP's Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has been called to assist with the investigation. Investigators were interviewing 30 to 40 witnesses Friday night.

"There were many, many witnesses to this incident. We are trying to get statements from all of them. Frankly, many of them are traumatized, upset with what they saw," Thiessen said.

Gun violence leaves 3 dead

Friday's brazen shooting is the fourth incidence of gun violence in Metro Vancouver since Monday:

• Raphael Baldini, 21,was shot dead around 5 p.m. Tuesday while sitting in his vehicle outside Guildford Town Centre in Surrey.
• A few hours later, Brianna Helen Kinnear, 21, was found shot dead, slumped over the steering wheel of a vehicle in Coquitlam.
• On Monday night, James Erickson, 25,was found dead with gunshot wounds in a Surrey apartment building.

Police have said the three shootings earlier this week were targeted attacks, although investigators have not identified any suspects.
