Man charged with alleged WestJet voucher scam

A 24-year-old Vancouver man is behind bars and facing a fraud charge in connection with an alleged scam involving discount WestJet airline vouchers.

A 24-year-old Vancouver man is behind bars and facing a fraud charge in connection with an alleged scam involving discount WestJet airline vouchers.

Dozens of people say they bought the vouchers at discount prices from a man advertising online at craigslist.

However, the tickets weren't honoured by WestJet because they were paid forwith a stolen credit card.

The victims were out the money they paid for the vouchers, and Westjet claims it was out thousands of dollars after it offered flights for $50 as a goodwill gesture.

Elliott Joseph Booth was arrested a week and a half ago, say police.

He has used many names over the past years, according to police and court documents. He hasgone by Steve Cameron, Patrick Finn, Mike Liptka and others.

One of the victims in the alleged scam dealt with a Mike Liptka. Booth is charged with fraud over $5,000 in that case.

He will remain in custody until his next court appearance on March 26.
