Man crashes car into house during targeted shooting in Burnaby

A man drove his car into the bedroom of a house during a targeted shooting in Burnaby early Wednesday morning.

The man crashed his car into a house after he was shot, no one else injured.

A man drove his car into the bedroom of a house during a targeted shooting inBurnaby early Wednesday morning.

Burnaby RCMP said the man had to be rescued from inside his vehicle after crashing into the house on Broadway near Fell Street around 1 a.m.He was taken to hospital with gunshot woundsand is recovering in hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Shooting appears targeted; victim known to police

"There is no fear for the general public," said Burnaby RCMP Staff Sgt. Jeff Ausmus. "Their safety is not compromised at this time."

The victim, a 44-year-old male, is well known to police and is part of an organized crime group, say the RCMP.

Ausmus said none of the occupants of the house were injured in the crash, but they were severely shaken.

Police are still searching for a suspect and they believe the shooting is targeted.

Investigators with the Burnaby RCMP Serious Crime Unit have been in touch with officers in other jurisdictions, as they try to determine whether the shooting is connected to other recent incidents in the Lower Mainland.
