If it's mid-March, it must be time for that late-winter getawaybut if you didn't plan ahead, you may have trouble finding an affordable destination.

The Flight Centre's Allison Wallace has some bad news for those who waited.

"There's not much left especially if you're looking for the typical hotspots," Wallace said.

Wallace said there are no specials left for Disney, or family-friendly Mexico. When you do find something, it's likely to be 50 to 100 per cent over the normal cost.

That's the laws of supply and demand. But if you're willing to against the grain, and seek museums and culture not sun - there are deals.

Flights to Mexico are now over a thousand, but to Paris: $598.

"It's the shoulder season, it's not peak season yet," Wallace said.

Once your flight is booked, think about deals through your credit cards. Visa offers discounts, because they want you to use your card to pay: It gets you 20 per cent off car rentals, and up to $150 dollars off your hotel.
