Victoria man killed in Mexico, 2nd Canadian in custody
Roger Corbett, 49, killed on vacation in a beachside Gulf Coast town
A Victoria man has been slain and another Canadianarrested following an altercation in Mexico.
Global Affairs Canada confirms consular officials are assisting the family of a Canadian citizen who was killed and another Canadian who has been arrested.
Family in Victoria have confirmed that RogerCorbett, 49, was killed while on vacation in Mexico.
His mother, MaryCorbett,said her son was in Mexico for a vacation when he was stabbed at a home nearMeridaon the Yucatan Peninsula.
She saidfew details have been shared with the family.
"They were there and a fight broke out," she said."It's all hearsay."
Corbett was the father of four children,
"I don't know how to explain it. It's a shock to me that anybody would do something like that to him," his mother said.
She said the accused was a friend ofher son's, but she did not know him.In the meantime, the family is trying to come to terms with losing a man described as generous and caring.
"He's one of these guys that if you needed anything he'd be there in a flash to help you out in any way he could," Mary Corbett said.
Global Affairs Canada says consular officials are in contact with local authorities to find out more about the case.
