Mountain biker dies in North Vancouver accident

Officials are investigating the death of a 38-year-old U.S. tourist who died in a mountain bike accident on the North Shore mountains.

The man was visiting from Boise, Idaho, with his young family, but was riding alone when the accident happened, said Cpl. Richard De Jong of the North Vancouver RCMP.

North Shore Rescue was called to the Pipeline Trail on Fromme Mountain on Monday afternoon,after two other mountain bikers found him unconscious.

"Apparently he fell off a teeter plank, as it's called, or a balance board and sustained significant trauma to his head and neck area, so unfortunately he died at the trail right there," said De Jong.

Rescuers used a helicopter long-line to get the cyclist out of the forest.

The man whose name has not been released was wearing protective gear and a helmet.
