Multiple SAR teams search for missing hiker near Pitt Lake

A trio of Search and Rescue teams from Coquitlam, Central Fraser Valley and Ridge Meadows are joining to renew the search for a missing 49-year-old hiker near Pitt Lake.

33-person team searching for experienced hiker last heard from 12 days ago

A trio of Search and Rescue teams from Coquitlam, Central Fraser Valley and Ridge Meadows are joiningto renew the search for a missing 49-year-old hiker near Pitt Lake.

Ridge Meadows Search and Rescuemanager RickLaingsaid the man left on a hikeon September 9, which was only expectedto last for 10 to 15 days.

"We've had some periods of bad weather in these last two weeks and so that's certainly raised some concern," saidLaing.

"No signs of distress, just somebody out for a long wilderness hike."

The exact route of the experienced hiker'sjourneyis unknown, but searchersbelievethe man was making his way to Tingle Peak, east ofPittLake.

The man was supposed to check inusing satellite messenger every 3 days, but the last message he sent was four days after he originally left.

Busy week for SAR teams

North Shore Rescue said they were also asked to help in the search, but had to decline due to a very busy week for volunteers.

"With our situation and our work this week, we have declined to send any of our team members," said Peter Haigh with NSR.

"Right at the moment, we're pretty maxed out."

Despite this a 33-person team will resume the search Friday morning.

The man is an experienced hiker and has been in the area before.

He is described as 5 feet, 9 inchestall,with grey hair.
