New technique to be revealed in homicide probe

The Lower Mainland's Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says it will reveal a new investigative technique Wednesday at a news conference aboutahigh-profile, unsolved Vancouver slaying.

Police have timed the update for just a few days prior to the one-year anniversary of the killing of Wendy Ladner-Beaudry. The body of the 53-year-old Vancouver mother of two was found April 3, 2009, on a trail in Pacific Spirit Park in the city's upscale Southwest Marine Drive neighbourhood.

It was believed Ladner-Beaudry was jogging prior to being killed. Police have not revealed how she died.

The investigative technique being utilized by investigators in the Ladner-Beaudry investigation hasnever been used by theIHIT before, the RCMP said in a news release Tuesday.

No connection to similar investigation

A statement and pre-recorded video clips will also be released by Peter Ladner, the brother of the victim and a former Vancouver city councillor, the release said.

Charges were laid Tuesday in a similar slaying in West Vancouver, but police do not believe thetwo cases are related.

A 45-year-old New Westminster man was charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of Tammy-Lynn Cordone in Lighthouse Park in May 2009, weeks after the Ladner-Beaudry killing.

Const. Jeff Palmer said in that case the victim and accused knew each other.
