Oppal takes Delta South by two votes

B.C. Liberal Wally Oppal beat star Independent candidate Vicki Huntington by two votes in the restructured riding of Delta South in the tightest race of B.C.'s general election.

Oppalhad 42.6 per cent of the vote, with Huntington breathing down his neck at 42.5 per cent.

The NDP's Dileep Athaidewas at13 per cent, the Green party's Duane Laird tookjust over twoper cent and Independent John William Shavluk counted under one per cent of the votes.

British Columbia's election law requires a recount when the margin is fewer than 100 votes and any of the candidates asks for the ballots to be counted again. Huntington's campaign representativeshave already said they would seek a recount if the margin were close.
