Pedestrian, 31, dead after North Vancouver crash

A 31-year-old man was crossing Lonsdale Avenue when he was struck by a northbound Cadillac pickup truck.

Crash happened at Lonsdale Avenue and 4th Street just before midnight Thursday

A 31-year-old North Vancouverman is dead after he was struck by a pickup truck late Thursday night.

The pedestrian was walking in a marked cross walk at LonsdaleAvenue and 4th Street, according to North Vancouver RCMP.

Police said the driver of the black Cadillac was traveling northbound on Lonsdale shortly before midnight.

EhsanBorghie, who was driving behind the pickup truck, witnessed the crash.

"The guy flew in the air, and just landed right there and pretty much I had to pull over," said Borghie.

"Luckily we had a doctor in the crowdwho helped him out until ambulance arrived."

Paramedics with the B.C. Ambulance Service soon arrivedand performed CPR on the man before taking him to hospital, said bystanders.

The driver, a 48-year-old North Vancouver resident, was taken into police custody.

An impaired driving investigation is underway, according to North Vancouver RCMP.
