2 injured after plane crashes in Okanagan Lake

A small amphibious plane crashed into Okanagan Lake on Monday nearWest Kelowna, B.C., leaving two men with minor injuries, RCMP say.

The pilot mistakenlytried to land on the water with wheels down, which caused the plane to flip into the lake, said Cst. Mike Gillis.

The crash happened about 90 metres off shorenear Sunnyside Road.

A 72-year-old man from Alberta and his 59-year-old male passenger were on board. They were rescuedby people in a nearby boat.

Police responded to the incident at about 5 p.m. PT. The men were taken to hospital by ambulance with minor injuries.

Crewsremoved the plane from the water later Monday evening.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is now investigating.
