PNE prize home winners announced

The 74th Pacific National Exhibition prize home was awarded to Verna and Mandeline Wilson on Tuesday night.

The 74th Pacific National Exhibition prize home was given away Tuesday night.

The million-dollar home was awarded to mother and daughter pair Verna and Mandeline Wilson.

"I just decided to buy the ticket last night on impulse because something told me I should," Verna Wilson said. "I heard the names and thought, 'Could there be other people with those names?'"

Verna Wilson, 87, still works at a venture mining company she started more than 20 years ago, but she hasn't owned a home since the 1970s.

Both mother and daughter said the news was simply wonderful.

The home, described as a country cottage-inspired getaway, isapproximately3,000square feet in size.

The Wilsons said they plan to wait until the news sinks in before deciding whether to keep the home, which will be moved to Gibsons on B.C.'s Sunshine Coast.

The PNE prize home lottery started in 1934. All revenue generated from the lottery's ticket sales goes to supporting non-revenue producing programs that focus on agricultural programming.
