Vancouver police crack down on noisy motorcyclists

It happens every spring the warm weather means a lot more motorcycles on the road. And with them come the inevitable noise complaints. Now, armed with a recent B.C. Supreme Court ruling, police have more enforcement options.

It happens every spring the warm weather means a lot more motorcycles on the road.

Vancouver police say they get a lot of noise complaints from riled residents at this time of year and arereminding riders to be safe and considerate of others while out enjoying the weather.

Police have more ticketing options

Police also want to point out that new rules mean officers can now use their ears instead of a decibel meter to decide whether the roar of amotorcycle's engineis acceptable or not.

A recent B.C. Supreme court decision saidofficers can use "subjective observation" to measure noise levels.

The fine for runningyour motor too loud is $109 under the Motor Vehicle Act.
