RCMP issue warning after 66-year-old woman killed in Sicamous, B.C.

Police say a man connected to the death was originally arrested for manslaughter but later released from custody.

RCMPin a small community in B.C.'s Shuswap Valley have warned about a potential public safety risk posed by an alleged suspect after a 66-year-old woman was found dead at a mobile home park on Wednesday.

Sicamous RCMP say they were called to assist paramedics providing medical assistance to the woman, who was found unresponsive in a driveway early Wednesday.

Jo Ann Jacksonof Sicamousdied at the scene. Aman in the area was arrested and later released.

"We have an individual who was initially arrested for manslaughter in relation to this incident," saidCpl. James Grandy.

"He was put on a series of protective conditions to abide by. Along with those conditions and RCMP resources that I'm not going to speak to... we trust that there will be limited risk to the public."

The suspect cannot be named because he has not been charged.

His police-imposed conditions includenot returningto the property at 1707 Hillier Rd.where the woman died.

Grandy said the investigation is in its early stages and thatthe public doesnot need to adjust their behaviour.

Sicamous, population 2,000, is around 120 kilometres north of Kelowna.

RCMP are asking for video or dashcam footage from between 1 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. on June 19 from Hillier Roadto the Trans-Canada Highway.
