Prince George gets royal baby nod with Canada Post stamp

Canada Post is honouring the new royal baby and the British Columbia city that bears his name by releasing a new stamp on the eve of the boy's christening.

Limited-edition stamp commemorates Prince George and his parents, Prince William and Kate

Canada Post is honouring the new royal baby and the British Columbia city that bears his name by releasing a new stamp on the eve of the boy's christening.

The service is issuing a limited-edition stamp commemorating Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge and his parents, Prince William and Kate, on Oct. 22, just over three months after his birth and the day before the baby is to be christened in London.

Canada Post is also giving stamp collectors the option of having the stamp cancelled in Prince George, B.C.

Canada Post spokeswoman Anick Losier says residents of the city can visit the post office and ask for the postmaster to cancel the stamp.

She says collectors living outside the city can place a letter affixed with the stamp inside another letter and mail it to the postmaster at the Prince George post office, requesting the stamp be cancelled in the city.

Losier says some collectors prefer cancelled stamps, and selecting the city as a cancellation site gives the community a sense of pride.

A cancellation mark means the stamp can't be used again.
