RCMP discover human remains in rural Quesnel

RCMPsay officers discoveredhuman remains in a rural area of Quesnel, B.C on Wednesday afternoon during a search for a missing man.

The remains have not been identified.

Police say they were found in an area where officers went to follow up on a tip about a local man, Louis Korkowski, 33,who had been reported missingand possibly abducted on Monday.

Officers made the discovery approximately 40 kilometres west of Quesnel, near the Nazko Highway.

Suspicious circumstances

The RCMP's North District Major Crime Unit has taken over the investigation. Police say the remains and circumstances surrounding the death appear to indicate a crime took place.

Police are working with the B.C. Coroners Service toidentity the remains.

"We recognize there are many questions and wishes for us to confirm whether or not these are the remains of the man, recently reported missing to the Quesnel RCMP,"said Staff Sgt. Janelle Shoihet in a release.

"Our priority at this time is to confirm identity and then to speak with the man's family."
