RCMP in Prince George are investigating a brazen daylight shooting that left a man dead.

Police were called to the 2400 block of Oak Street at 3 p.m. PT on Saturday,Const. Lesley Smith of the Prince George RCMP told CBC News.

"This happened in a well-populated area known as the VLA," Smith said. "It is populated with families and there are children around especially at 3 o'clock in the afternoon so we were quite concerned when we heard of the shooting at such time during the day."

Smith said it's not clear whether the city's seventh homicide of the year was gang-related.

"We are working very hard at this time to identify possible suspects and to get more witnesses to come forward," Smith said.

Police have not released the dead man's name.
