In a few months, a block of Robson Street will be transformed into series of wooden porches painted in bright colours and open to public use.

The installation called Porch Parade is the winner of a design-build competition held by the City of Vancouver each year.

This year, a team from Chicago won the honour of sprucing up a block of Robson Street in front of the Vancouver Art Gallery.

Cheryl Nelms with the City of Vancouver says the winning design allows a lot of interaction.

"That's one of the keycriteriathat the judges were looking at ... the element of social connection," she said.

"This one was interesting because of more the idea of using this front porch concept, lots of use of colour and we just haven't sort of seen that before."

The design was chosen out of about 80 entries from around the world. It will be set up on Robson Street on July 1 through to Labour Day.
