RCMP regimental funeral planned for Const. Sarah Beckett

Plans are underway for an RCMP regimental funeral for Const. Sarah Beckett, theRCMP officer who died this week in a collision in Langford, B.C.

The funeral forBeckett will be held on Tuesday at the Q Centre in Colwood, according to information released by the Capital Regional District.

The arena seats about 3,100 people.

Yesterday, hundred of Victoria area residents lined the streets as police escorted Beckett'sbody to the airport so it could be flown to Vernon for tests.

The return flight is due back this afternoon.There will be a second procession to escort the casket from the airport to Sands Funeral Home in Colwood home starting around 2:30 p.m. PT today.

Const. Sarah Beckett died early Tuesday morning when her police cruiser was in a collision with a pick-up truck in the Victoria suburb of Langford.

Beckett, an 11-year member of the force who spent her entire career on Vancouver Island, is survived by her husband and two young children.

The driver of the other vehicle was arrested at the scene andreleasedWednesday. No charges have been laid, but police saidthe investigation is ongoing.
