Separated bike lane could be coming to Point Grey

The City of Vancouveris considering a separated bike path along Cornwall Avenue and Point Grey Road in the city's Point Grey neighbourhood.

The first of three open houses to discuss the plan takes place tonight.

"I would love to see both lanes of traffic taken off Point Grey Road," said former Vancouver city councillor and avid cyclist Peter Ladner, who also lives in the area.

"You can open that other area up for a continuation of the seawall from Trafalgar right through to Jericho, so someone could ride their bike or walk or go with their kids or strollers or whatever all the way around the waterfront of Vancouver."

Ladner says motorists who use Cornwall Avenue and Point Grey Road to get to UBC can use 4th Avenue.

He adds cyclists don't use the bike route a few blocks away because it's poorly designed.

Thursdays open house is at 7 p.m. PT at Henry Hudson Elementary School.

Another open house takes place Saturday at 10 a.m. PTat Bayview Elementary School, followed by a final presentation Monday at 4 p.m. PTat the Kitsilano Public Library.
