More school closures and transit delays mark a snowy Monday evening

With several feet of snow still on the ground in theFraserValley and more snow expected overnight many school districts have announced the cancellation of classes for a second straight day.

TheAbbotsfordSchool District,ChilliwackSchool District,Mission School District,LangleySchool District,and theFraser-CascadeSchool Districthave all announced closures for Tuesday, along with the University of theFraserValley.

Schools inMaple Ridge andPittMeadows were closed on Monday, but as of 11:30 p.m. PT were still expected to open on Tuesday.

Surrey's school district will make a decision as to whether its schools are closed at approximately 6 a.m. PT on Tuesday.

It comes as Environment Canada has issuedanother snowfall warningfor theFraserValley and Greater Victoria area, with five to ten centimetres expected overnight.

A snowfall warning was originally issued for Metro Vancouver, but ended on Monday evening.

At theAbbotsfordairport, 57 centimetres of snow fell between Friday and Monday, according to Environment Canada and parts ofChilliwackreceived upwards of 75 centimetres.

Rush hour delays on the Canada Line

Further to the west, astalled Canada Line train near the North Arm Bridge at Marine Drive caused delays for several hours on Monday evening.

TransLinkspokesmanChris Bryansays they're still determining what the exact problem is, but it appears to be similar to the issue that affected the same stretch of track between Marine Station and Bridgeport on Friday night.

A bus bridge was set up to run between Oakridge andBridgeport stations for several hours, before service was restored at approximately 8 p.m. PT.

However, after service was restored between Oakridge and Bridgeport, shuttle buses were still required betweenRichmond-Brighouse and Bridgeport stations, and the YVRand Bridgeport stations, for several hours.

It also forced a delay for all trains on the entire route for approximately 30 minutes during rush hour.

TransLinkisalso experiencing delays of 30 to 60 minutes on some bus routesand hasrerouted several bus lines in the Lower Mainland because of icy conditions, including the 210, 230 and the 3.

The 145 to SFU has also been suspended, along with the C3 and C4 shuttle buses in New Westminster.

Green bin collection suspended

Although Vancouver might be spared any more snow before rain is forecasted to hit on Wednesday, the city has temporarily suspended its Green Bin collection in order to focus on garbage collection.

"Typically, garbage collection occurs every two weeks, withGreenBin collection taking place each week. In the winter months,greenbinvolumes are lighter as there are no grass or yard trimmings," the city said in a statement.

"GreenBincollection is expected to resumeTuesday, February 14, following theMondayholiday."

The city also said that some recycling delays are expected, but that if a person hasn't had their recycling bin picked up on the expected date, to keep it outside because additional crews will be returning to missed areas.
