Snow tumbling down the Grouse Grind Sunday raised concerns about hikers

No injuries are reported after packed snowtumbled down North Vancouver's Grouse Grind on Sunday morning.

The Grouse Grind is a popular three-kilometre running trail located on the steep and wooded slope of Grouse Mountain. It is officially closed during winter months, but is still accessible.

North Shore Search and Rescue officials tweeted word of an "avalanche" Sunday at about 10:30 a.m. PT and said a crew had been dispatched to see if anyone was hurt.

Reconnaissance on foot and by helicopter turned up no trace of anyone having beenon the affected part of the trail and a downgrading of the incident to a "slide" which collapsed a tree but did little else.

There is snow on the Grouse Mountain ski runs, but temperatures closer to sea level in B.C.'s Lower Mainland are about 6C.

Local reports earlier this month said many people were ignoring the signs marking the trail closed.
