Murder charge laid after Vancouver stabbing

A 42-year-old man has been chargedwith second degree murder after a 55-year-old woman was stabbed to death in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside on Friday. TroyLeardAlsagerwill remain in police custody pending his next court date.

Investigators say the woman was stabbedaround noon on Fridayinside her apartment. She then fledout the front door of thebuilding at 215 Princess Ave.

Neighbours described hearing loud, unsettling screamsat the time and saw the woman lying on the streetwearing no shoes or jacketwhile bleeding profusely.

Police sayAlsagerand the woman lived in separate suites in the building, and it is unclear whether they knew each other.

The killing is the twelfth homicide in the city this year.
