Fourth Canfor mill hit by fire in Prince George

Prince George firefighters spent five hours battling yet another Canfor mill fire after a blaze broke out in a wood hopper at the Prince George Sawmill on Landooz Road on Sunday night .

Prince George firefighters spentfive hours battling yet another Canfor mill fire after ablaze broke out in a wood hopper at the Prince George Sawmill on Landooz Road on Sunday night.

Assistant fire chief Greg Wilkins said the fire was burning fiercely by the time crews arrived.

The blaze was Canfor's fourth mill fire in Prince George this year, but investigators have not indicatedthey have any reason tobelieve the fires are linked.

"Fire crews arriving at the scene found flames shooting from the top of the wood hopper, each 20 metres tall andfour metres wide and deep. The bins were glowing red with heat," Wilkins said on Monday morning.

"It was a spectacular firebut it was brought under control quickly," he said.

In January a large section of thePrince George Pulp and Paper mill was destroyed infire.

A second massive fire in May destroyedthe North Central Plywood plant.

Then in July, a fire broke out atthe Intercon Pulp Mill in Prince George, but that fire was extinguished quickly.
