Man gunned down in Burnaby

Mounties in Burnaby, B.C., are investigating after a man was gunned down at Metrotown mall.

Mounties in Burnaby, B.C., are investigating after a man was gunned down at Metrotown mall on Saturday evening.

A man, described as a 32-year-old South Asian male, was found dead inside a black BMW SUV in a Metrotown parking lot at about 6 p.m. PT.

Cpl. Dale Carr with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said the mall was open at the time of the shooting, but there were very few people in the parking lot.

"This is very apparent that it's a very targeted murder and that, from the evidence that I've seen, there was absolutely nobody in danger other than the victim himself."

Police said it appears no other vehicles in the area were hit by any of the shots and the victim was the only person in the SUV at the time of the shooting. Theman was known to police but his identity was not released.

Police said it's too early to say whether the shooting is linked to drugs, gangs or organized crime.

Police said the shopping centre's surveillance systems captured extensive video coverage of the area where the shooting took place and thatvideo has beenturned over to them.
