One man is in critical condition in hospital after a shooting in Surrey, B.C., Friday night.

Surrey RCMP received several reports of shots fired in the area of 144 Street and 101 Avenue at about 9:30 p.m. PT, according to Cpl. Holly Marks.

"On attendance, [officers] found one male who had sustained gunshot wounds. He has been transported to hospital in critical condition."

Marks said the man, in his late 20s or early 30s, was hit as he sat in his car.

"At this point, all we've heard is that there were multiple suspects and that they fled the scene after the shots were fired," she said. "To my understanding, they fled in a vehicle but I have no more information other than that."

According to Marks, the victim is known to police and is believed to have gang affiliations.
