B.C. family marks 1 year since son's disappearance

A Vancouver Island family says it will continue to offer a $10,000-reward for information leading to the discovery of their son.

Matthew Huszar, 25,disappeared after attending a Christmas partyin Gastown on Dec. 16, 2011.

He was a recent UBC grad with a good job, a girlfriend and a sailboat he was going to refurbish.

The night Huszar disappeared he had been at the Lamplighter Pub but eventually went his own way from friends, walking east along Water Street.

The last image of him is from surveillance footage at a bank machine.

"It's really frustrating because we just don't know what to do," said his mother Danny Huszar.

"It's like a big black hole We don't know anything, we just don't know. He could be out there anywhere and there's just no sign of where he went or what he did."

She says she hasnt stopped looking for her son.

"I drive into Sooke and I look at the cars coming out with the surfboards coming out on top and always kind of peek in the windows and think, you know, 'Is my son in there?'" Huszar said.

"We certainly haven't given up hope. We never will. It's just very difficult not having any information at all."

Police in Vancouver investigate more than 2,500 missing persons cases every year, less thanone per cent of which remain unsolved.
