UN gangster pleads guilty to murder conspiracy

A senior member of the United Nations gang has pleaded guilty to conspiring to murder the Bacon brothers, the infamous leaders of a rival B.C. gang.

A senior member of the United Nations gang has pleaded guilty to conspiring to murder the Bacon brothers, the infamous leaders of a rival B.C. gang.

Daniel Russell, 32,also pleaded guilty in B.C. Supreme Court to a charge of manslaughter for a fatal shooting in 2008.

The Crown and defence are expected to make a joint submission on the man's sentence when the hearing resumes.

Russell, who has been in custody since his arrest in 2009, admitted that heconspired with others to kill rivalsJonathan Bacon, James Bacon and Jarrod Bacon and their Red Scorpions gang associates.

The manslaughter plea is for theshooting death of Jonathan Barber, a stereo installer, who was driving one of the Bacon brother's vehicles along a Vancouver street when it was sprayed by bullets.

Jamie Bacon is facing trialfor conspiracy to commit murder in relation to theSurrey Six murdersin October 2007.

His brotherJonathan was fatally shot in Kelownain 2011, andJarrod Bacon is currently serving 12 yearsin prison for cocaine trafficking.
