Surrey man dies as investigation into shootout continues

A 38-year-old man involved in a shootout between two groups in Surrey, B.C., on Wednesday night has died, as police continue their investigation into what they call a targeted hit.

The man was found wounded in a Ford Explorer near Surrey Memorial Hospital about 20 minutes after the shootout at a fast food restaurant in an industrial parking lot, police said.

At about 6:30 p.m., RCMP responded to a complaint of a shooting at the McDonald's restaurant near 110th Avenue and Scott Road, Sgt. Roger Morrow, a Surrey RCMP spokesman, said Thursday.

Police said they believe the shooting was not a random act and the parties knew each other. No name has been released but police said the man lived inSurrey.

Police are still trying to determine how many shots were fired and how many people wereinvolved,Morrow said.

Shortly after the shootout, police responded to the area of 94A Ave and King George Highway and located a vehicle, Morrow said, but have not been able to confirm whether it was linked to the shooting.

RCMP's major crimes unit continues its investigation and was on the scene on Scott Road Thursday morning, conducting forensic examinations, Morrow said.

Police don't believe the general public in Surrey is at risk as a result of shooting incident.
