Overnight Surrey shooting targeted, but not linked to organized crime: police

Police are once again investigating gun fire in Surrey, B.C.

RCMP say they received reports early Saturday morning of shots being fired in South Surrey and officers sayseveral gun shots appear to have been firedinto a residence.

Police say there were people inside the home, but no one was injured.

Investigators believe the shooting was a targeted but anisolated incident not linked to organized crime.

Cpl. Scotty Schumann says investigators believe there was a party going on at the home when shots were fired at the residence around 3:30 a.m. PT on Saturday.

"Thankfully nobody was injured in this incident and what we know at this point is that it certainly appears that it was a targeted event,although has no links to the recent spike in violence that we saw last March here in Surrey," he said.

There have been dozens of shootings in Surrey this year, and police say much of the violence is tied to young men involved in low-level drug trade.
