1 person in custody after tractor strikes police car, rolls over on highway ramp in Surrey, B.C.: RCMP

RCMPsay one person was takeninto custody after a tractor struck a police car and rolled over inSurrey, B.C. on Saturday.

RCMP say members of the B.C. Highway Patrol were dealing with a service call at around 12:35 p.m. when they came across a tractor on Highway 1 that was "possibly involved in a protest."

"They attempted to stop the tractor which resulted in an initial collision when the tractor struck a police vehicle," said RCMP Staff Sgt. Duane Honeyman in a statement.

"The incident ended when the tractor rolled over as it tried to take the on ramp to Highway 1 westbound."

RCMP say a person was taken into custody and taken to hospital for their injuries.

Cpl.Dave Noon with theLower Mainland Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service said on social media Saturday afternoonthat team members were deployed to Highway 1 and the176 Street westbound entrance.

CBC News has contacted the B.C. Highway Patrol for comment.

RCMP did not provide details on why theythinkthe tractor may have been involved in a protest, or the nature of the protest.
