Taxi driver killed in deadly crash on the Barnet Highway

The accident occurred in the 9900-block of the highway, westbound. The driver was the lone occupant and there were no other cars involved.

Burnaby RCMP say paramedics tried to save the driver, but were not successful.

A taxi driver has been killed in a single-vehiclecrash on theBarnet Highway late Thursday night.

The crash happened just before midnight Thursdayin the 9900-block of the highway in the westbound lane.

Staff Sgt. Curtis Burks with the Burnaby RCMP says the driver hit a street lamp and was ejected from his vehicle.

Paramedics rushed to the scene and found the driver in a nearby ravine. Burks says they tried to save the driver's life but they were not successful.

The driver was the only occupant in the taxi at the time.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact Burnaby RCMP.

They say the westbound lane of the Barnet Highway in the 9900-block will be closed to traffic until at least 7 a.m. PT Friday.
