Thousands of cruise ship passengers flooding into Vancouver on Sunday

Port Metro Vancouver is warning the publicto brace for traffic congestionand increased demand for public transportation in downtown Vancouver on Sunday asthousands of cruise ship passengers flood into the city.

Officials say 12,800 passengers fromthree cruise ships are expected to disembark and embark at Canada Place between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The port says it is working with the cruiselines, the city, Tourism Vancouver and taxi companies to prepare for the influx of people.

"Cruise passengers are asked not to arrive at Canada Place cruise terminal prior to their scheduled embarkation time in order to avoid further congestion while disembarking passengers are leaving their ships," said Port Metro Vancouver in a statement.

"Given the significant number of passengers, Port Metro Vancouver is advising those going to the terminal to make transportation arrangements in advance."

The three ships docking at Canada Place tomorrow are Princess Cruises' "Crown Princess" and Holland America'sMS Oosterdam and MS Zaandam.
