Tires slashed on more than 100 cars in Surrey

A man is in police custody in Surrey following a massive tire slashing and vandalism spree Tuesday that involves at least 100 cars, police say.

About 65 of the cars were at the Scott Road Skytrain Park and Ride, said Surrey RCMP Inspector Steve Wade, who said some cars also were "keyed," or had their paint deeply scratched.

"We also had numerous reports from various areas all over the Whalley district for similar incidents to other vehicles," Wade told CBC News. "Through the course of our investigation, we arrested a male We have witnesses who have seen him cause damage to a couple of vehicles and we're trying to link him to all the others."

Wade said the trail of destruction includes an area that runs from Scott Road, up the King George Highway to the Surrey Central Skytrain, where car tires also were slashed.

ICBC spokesman Adam Grossman said the insurance corporation had handled about 60 calls about the damage by late Tuesday afternoon, and said affected customersshould call the main claims line at 604-520-8222.
