Halloween night accident: Surrey, B.C., boy struck by car while collecting candy

A boy collecting candy with his mother in Surrey, B.C., was hit by a car and rushed to hospital on Halloween night, one of two pedestrian collisionsin the city.

It happened at 7 p.m. PT at 62nd Avenueand 132 Street.

The toddler was taken to hospital and is being treated for a broken leg. His mother was also hit. Police describe her injuries as non-life threatening.

RCMP say in a release that a man was making a turn in his vehicle when he saw the pair, but was unable to stop in time.

Police say they aren't sure if the woman and child were in a marked crosswalk at the time of the accident.

The driver remained at the scene and spoke with police, no charges have been laid at this time as police continue to investigate.

Police say alcohol was not a factor in the accident.

In a separate collision,a 57-year-old pedestrian was hit around 9 p.m. PT on 144 Streetin Surrey.

The man, struck by a blue Toyota Yaris, is in critical condition.Theroads where the incidents occurred remain closed.
