Man charged over crash that caused death of toddler in downtown Vancouver

A man has been charged in connection with a crash that caused the death ofa toddler and injured her father in downtown Vancouver last year.

A man has been charged in connection with a crash that caused the death ofa toddler and injured her father in downtown Vancouver last year.

Police on Thursday saidSeyed Moshfeghi Zadeh, 30, faces two criminal chargesin relation to the crash on July 6, 2021.

A black Ford Escape crashed into a black McLaren sports car shortly after 6 p.m. PT at the intersection of Smithe and Hornby streets, near the courthouse downtown.

One of the cars jumpedthe sidewalk, hitting a man who was holding his 23-month-old toddler.The child, Ocean Oshi Noelle,was killedinstantly.

Police said the father was left with "life-altering injuries."

The girl's mother, Star J., said in an interviewshe was just coming home from work when she witnessed the crash.

CBCNewsagreed to not publish the family members' last names to protect their privacy.

Police said Zadehhas been charged with one count of dangerous operation of a conveyance causing death and one count of dangerous operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm.
