1 dead, 6 injured in multi-vehicle crash on Hwy 1 in B.C. Interior

One person has died in amulti-vehicle collision Saturday evening on Highway 1 that led to the route being closed through most of Sunday, according to RCMP.

Route was closed for almost 24 hours after 'chain-reaction' collision between Sicamous and Salmon Arm

One person has died in amulti-vehicle collision Saturday evening on Highway 1 that led to the route being closed through most of Sunday, according to RCMP.

Mounties say numerous vehicles were involved in the crash between Sicamous and Salmon Arm, B.C.,including semi-trailers, a cube vanand cars.

The "chain reaction" crash started when an eastbound semi-trailer jack-knifed and blocked all three lanes of the highway.

Six people were taken to hospital following the crash. One man died after he was pinned between his semi-trailer and a vehicle immediately in front of him.

"Trans-Canada Highway 1 is anticipated to be closed throughout the day [on Jan. 9] while crews work to clear the roadway of the vehicles and debris," an RCMP spokesperson said in a statement.

The highway reopened around 8 p.m. PT Sunday, according to DriveBC.
