Advice for booking quarantine hotels

The Pubic Health Agency of Canada is recommending that travellers only call the booking number if their flight into the country is scheduled withinthe next 48 hours and they are ready to book their hotel stay.

The agency said contributing to the high call volume is the number of people enquiring about reserving hotel rooms for March and April which they should be not doing for future travel at this time.

In response to concerns about people unable to book hotel rooms prior to arrival, the Public Health Agency of Canada said "PHAC officials at the airport will help any travellers who were not able to book their government-authorized accommodation".

The agency said the number of calls has been decreasing since the phone system opened, citing 20,000 calls to the phone line on Feb.19, 15,000on Feb.20, and 10,000 calls on Feb.21.

The government of Canada reiterated its message for Canadiansto cancel or postpone any non-essential travel plans outside the countryfor the foreseeable future.

The phone lines for the hotel room booking system are open from 8 am to 11 pm ET, seven days a week.
