If you've been around Vancouver's popular Trout Lake recently, you might have noticed the concession stand on the beach is closed in the middle of the busy summer season.

The Vancouver Park Board says the closure is out of its control, as it is one of 13 concession stands in city parks and beaches operated by third parties.

"Unfortunately that particular operator who had been with us for a number of years made a decision a few weeks ago to retire," said Gordon Barber, the manager of revenue services for the Vancouver Park Board. "Although she had initially signed on to operate for the full season [she]gave us relatively short notice."

"We've been actively out trying to find a replacement to step in and operate that location, unfortunately without success."

In the meantime,aJapadog food truck will be on site.

"This is a temporary closure," Barber said."Our hope is that we have it reopened on a full time basis very shortly."

The Trout Lake concession is generally the least busy, and therefore leastprofitable of the city's 13 private concessions, which Barber says presents a challenge as the park board searches for a replacement.
