Trump Tower Vancouver developer sues contractor over delays

In a lawsuit dated Jan. 17, Holborn Developments (West Georgia) Ltd. claims a contractor's mistakes led to delays for the Vancouver Trump Tower.

The Holborn group accuses contractor of not having proper schedule or systems for quality control

The developer of the Trump Tower in downtown Vancouver is suing its contractor, claiming the company's mistakes led to costly projectdelays.

According to a notice of civil claim filedon Jan. 17., the Holborn group says Urban One Construction Management Inc. breached contract in more than two dozen ways.

Complaints include allegations the contractor didn't havea proper project scheduleor systems for security and quality control.

The lawsuit also claims appliances in the hotel portion of the building weren't installed properly, andthat Urban Oneapproved construction that wasn't up to standard.

The company was also"dishonest" with the Holborn group, according to the notice.

The developer, which licensed the right to use the Trump name in 2013,is seeking damages for negligence, delay and breach of contract.

None of the allegations have been proven in court.

On Tuesday, Urban One emailed a statement to CBC News in response to the lawsuit.

Company president Allan Beron said "there is no substance or merit behind the allegations. He said the company plans to "vigorously defend" against the claims.

The West Georgia Street towerwas originally scheduled to open last summer, but was delayed until the fall. The grand opening was pushed back again and is now expected within weeks.

The $360-million building includes more than 200 luxury condo units and a hotel. It's been a focal point for several protests against U.S. President Donald Trump.
