UBC sex assault suspect Yuan Zhi Gao granted bail

A man accused of participating in a frightening sex assault on the UBC campus Saturday has been granted bail with conditions.

Gao, 23, has been released after posting a $50,000 bond. He is banned from the UBC campus.

A man accused of participating in a frightening sex assault on the UBC campus Saturday has been granted bail with conditions.

Yuan Zhi Gao, 23, has been released after posting a $50,000 bond. Conditions include not going west of Blenheim Streetonto the UBC Campus or Endowment Grounds. He is also banned from having contact withwith victims or DavidSinghTucker, the co-accused in the case.

The Crown has upgraded Gao's charge tobreak and enter with intent to commit sexual assault.He was previously only charged withbreak and enter.

Gao's co-accused David Singh Tucker, 28, is facing three counts of sexual assault with a weapon, three counts of unlawful confinement, robberyand disguising his face with the intent to commit an indictable offence.

His bail hearing is scheduled for May18in Richmond Provincial Court.

Tucker and Gao were arrested early Saturday morning outside an apartment in the 5700 block of Birney Avenue on the UBC campus.
