UBC vice-president of finance and operations leaves job

The University of British Columbia'svice-president of finance and operationsAndrew Simpson has left his job.

"I am writing to inform you that as of January 8, 2018 Andrew Simpson has left his position as UBC's Vice-President, Finance and Operations," UBC president Santa Ono wrote in a memo sent to senior university personnel.

Vice-PresidentExternal Relations Philip Steenkamp confirmed that Simpson has left his role, but would not comment on whether he resigned.

"Privacy legislation prevents us from discussing personnel matters," he wrote.

Simpson joined UBC in June 2015, two months before former UBCpresident Arvind Gupta abruptly resigned.

According to UBC's website, the VP finance is responsible for UBC'sphysical and financial assets, includingoverseeing a $2.5 billion budget, a $1.2 billion endowment, and all university facilities.

In the memo, titled "UBCExecutive Changes," Ono thanked Simpson for his service to the university.

"Over the last few years he has worked to introduce a more transparent and inclusive budget process," he wrote.

"The university community is very grateful for his many contributions and we wish him all the best in his future endeavours."
