Vacant home fire guts Cedar Cottage house in Vancouver

An early morning house fire kept fire crews busy Saturday in the Cedar Cottage area of East Vancouver south of Trout Lake.

An early morning house fire kept fire crews busy Saturday in the Cedar Cottage area of East Vancouver south of Trout Lake.

Flames burned right through theroof of one of the few standalone houseson thatsection of Commercial St. near East 22nd Ave.

Neighboursawoke to sirensand told CBC News that nobody had occupied the homefor some time.

The street is a mix of condo buildings, storesand houses.

Reports of smoke came in from many parts of Vancouver, as far away as downtown,asfirefighters worked to control the blaze.

A cause has not yet been determined.
