Valentine's Day art show in Vancouver celebrates love and pizza

Hot Art Wet City's latest show is a saucy one. This isn't high-brow, crusty old art. It's celebrating love in a very cheesy way: with anarchic, pizza-inspired art from over 70 local artists.

As Valentine's Day approaches, people are getting ready to celebrate love in all its forms.

But Vancouver's Hot Art Wet City art gallery iscelebrating what could be thepurest love of all for some: the love of pizza.

Their Valentine's Day show, I 'Chew Chew Chew You,' features work from more than70 local artists celebrating their eternal love for cheese, sauce and toppings, served hot on a crust.

"A lot of people have so much love for pizza. It doesn't matter who you are or where you're from," said co-curator Cole Pauls. "[There's] like, a universal love of pizza. That's why we chose it."

Most of the pieces on display have an anarchic vibe to them, which is perhaps fitting, as Pauls is also the creator of a comic called Pizza Punks.

That comic has appeared since 2012 in the Capilano Courier, Lucky's Comics' Dunkmagazine and online. Itfeatures pizza-based hijinks and advice such as, "Remember to eat at least one pizza slice a day."

Pauls says he hopes people will check out the show with "a greasy slice of pizza in their hands."

"You don't need to bring a date. Your date is pizza, and it's at the gallery already," he said.

'I Chew Chew Chew You' opens Feb. 12 at Hot Art Wet City and runs until Feb. 27, 2016.
