More snow forecast as chilly temperatures linger in Metro Vancouver

If you were hoping to wake up to warmer weather in Metro Vancouver anytime soon, don't hold your breath.

Temperatures are expected to dip to around 5Cmost nightsand stay cool in the mornings this week. Flurries are in the forecast for Wednesday and on and off through Friday.

The chill follows a flash snowfallover the weekend that knocked out power for 27,000 peoplealong the South Coast.

During the days, however, the sun has been coming out making for a ratherscenic skyline.

Freezing temperatures prompted the City of Vancouver to open temporary warming shelters as refuge for people living on the streets.

Three Vancouver community centres are open Tuesday night:

  • Britannia Community Centre at 1739 Venables St.
  • Carnegie Community Centre at 401 Main St.
  • West End Community Centre at 870 Denman St.

The centres welcome both men and women, as well as pets, bikes and carts. Hot beverages and snacks are available and no reservations are required.

Staff atUnion Gospel Mission in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside had to turn away at least 25 people on Sunday night after its shelter space hit capacity.
